DepEd to give teachers P5K cash allowance on Aug. 22, 2022

The Department of Education (DepEd) will disburse cash allowance of P5,000 to all teachers during the opening of classes on August 22, Monday.

We would like to announce that on the opening of classes, August 22, we will be giving our teachers a cash allowance of P5,000.

In a press conference, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said the financial assistance is intended to support the teachers' return to classrooms.

Aside from the cash allowance, Poa said schools nationwide would receive supplemental Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) worth PHP3.7 billion in total to prepare for the incoming face-to-face classes.

He also raised the possibility of teachers' salary increase before 2023.

In the Joint Circular, classroom teachers will receive a Php 5,000 cash allowance intended for the purchase of teaching supplies and materials, tangible or intangible; for the conduct of various modes of learning, internet, and other communication expenses; and for their annual medical examination expense.

The Cash Allowance shall be given to entitled public school teachers not earlier than the official start of every school year, as stipulated in the annual issuance on the official School Calendar, or as may be decided by the Education Secretary or his/her designated authority in cases of emergency situations (emphasis supplied).
