Get Ready for an Extended Long Weekend from April 6 to 10

Filipinos will have a reason to celebrate as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared four consecutive holidays, making way for an extended long weekend from April 6 to April 10. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, which mark significant events in the Christian calendar, have been declared regular holidays. Meanwhile, Araw ng Kahitingan, originally scheduled on April 9, has been moved to April 10. April 10 is also recognized as the Day of Valor or Araw ng Kagitingan, a day that commemorates the bravery of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II.

The extended long weekend provides an opportunity for Filipinos to rest, unwind, and spend time with their families, especially during the ongoing pandemic. The government has reminded the public to observe health protocols and avoid large gatherings during the holidays to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared April 6 and 7 as regular holidays, and moved Araw ng Kahitingan to April 10.

The long weekend will be extended from April 6 to April 10.

• April 6 (Thursday) – Maundy Thursday

• April 7 (Friday) – Good Friday

• April 8-9 (Saturday-Sunday

• April 10 (Monday) – Day of Valor/Araw ng Kagitingan

Many Filipinos have welcomed the announcement, saying that it provides a much-needed break from the stress and demands of work and daily life. Others have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reflect on the religious and historical significance of the holidays being celebrated.

With the vaccination program in full swing, the extended long weekend also offers a chance for more people to get vaccinated and contribute to the country's fight against COVID-19. The government has encouraged the public to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Overall, the extended long weekend in April offers Filipinos a chance to recharge, reflect, and reconnect with their families and communities. It is a time to celebrate the country's rich history and culture and to honor the sacrifices of those who have fought for its freedom and independence.
